This is an excellent and rare example of an early settlement food cupboard. Found at a farmhouse in Moculta, in the Barossa Valley in April 1987. The food cupboard has Beidermier shaped legs and a shaped pediment. The legs and cross members are of red gum and the panelling of baltic pine. The panelling is punched tin which is rare. The original finish on the wood is a faded red simulated grain finish which was popular with the German settlers of the region. The tin is blue and the food cupboard is illustrated – colour plate 24 in “Australian Country Furniture” by Toby and Juliana Hooper. Dimensions 130 cm H x 67 cm w x 52 cm d. Price $1100.00
